Backlight fix?

Hi, my Macbook Air is having issues with its backlight. The screen is completely black but when i turn it on it makes the start-up noise and I can see a faint screen. I shone a light on the apple logo in the back and i can see the screen display slightly but other than that nothing else. Took it to an I.T store they said it was issues with either hardware or the backlight. They also said it would most likely cost them $900 to fix it. Wondering if there was any solutions?

You mentioned already taking your MacBook to an I.T. related store who determined it is a hardware failure likely, but did not mention what steps were attempted to troubleshoot the issue. The articles below could help troubleshoot the issue:

-Change your Mac display’s brightness - Apple Support. "If your Mac has an ambient light sensor, you can use it to adjust the screen’s brightness by selecting the “Automatically adjust brightness” checkbox in the Displays pane of System Preferences."

-How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support. This can help when it comes to sensor issues, such as the backlight.
