Mail app in El Capitan on iMac will not send

Mail app receives, but will not send. Mac Laptop configured same has no problems.

iMac 27", OS X 10.11

Conclusions can't be made that mail application or the complete user account is corrupted , do you use VPN services , any anti virus , softwares , unknown apps or cleaners in Mac .

If they are used uninstall them .

For the time being create a new test user account https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204443

And then add mail account https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mail/mail35803/mac

Do you observe any changes , post back .

None of that worked. It's pretty maddening. When I compare all the settings with my Mac Laptop - all the same yet Mail App on iMac when trying to send a msg starts, then freezes. After I delete the attempted send the app just keeps trying. Could the app be corrupted? My iMac is newer than the laptop, but both running El Capitan.
