My iPhone 8 does charge wirelessly, but will not charge through a wired connection, yet it will play music through that port with the adapter. I have tried several chargers and they all work with my iPad, just not my phone. It’s not a huge deal, but I was wondering why it could play through wired speakers but not charge.

Have you tried cleaning the port? Use something non-conductive like the stick to a cotton swab (not the cotton!). Use a good light and a magnifier if you have one. Make sure there's no pocket lint or other debris that's preventing the cable from connecting properly.

I think that's because one of the pins in your phone's charger port is damaged. Nowadays iPhone charger ports have 8 pins that are used for different things such as charging your phone or outputting music. If you want specifics, it could be pin 5 that is damaged.
I suggest you have it checked out at the Apple Store.
The nearest Apple store is almost 400 miles away and the privately owned local one is not the greatest. Thanks though.
