Ethernet to google fiber speeds drop, then return with cable unplug MacBook Pro

Hi everyone I have a 2019 MacBook Pro 13"

I have google fiber and an ethernet cable.

Eventually my speeds drop 90%

Then I switch to wifi or unplug the ethernet cable

then I plug it back in and the speeds go up.

I've checked this over many days many times - the speed always increases when I re-plug the cable

this is not variability in the google fiber speed

google has confirmed the problem is not the fiber line to the apartment

I have tried three different ethernet to thunderbolt 3 adaptors - problem remains is plugged into

any help appreciated thank you - Will

en3 is the one you are using for Wired Ethernet. The other one is your Wi-Fi.

On Ethernet, Send Errors more than a handful is a serious problem.

It may indicate a mis-wire or a broken wire in your cable. All eight conductors must be present and correctly-wired and not broken for Gigabit Ethernet to function error-free.

Detecting a send error sounds wonky, but the interface listens as it talks (the protocol requires that it detect collisions from other devices) and it has detected that some percentage of what it was sending had errors in it.

Flow control is an old-fashioned capability for devices that could not handle a big burst of data. If not selectable, no worries.

You need to choose Custom and enter a number in the range 8160 to 9000 for the MTU. Otherwise, the frames are so small, you run out of frame numbers, and the link slows down waiting for previous frames to be acknowledged.

thanks for your reply

it's the google fiber supplied router that was checked out by a technician who came by

usually top speeds are 800-900 mbps or so but then it drops to around 90mbps

the connection is rated at 1000 google fiber but it's supposedly normal to max at about 800-900

I'm using a belkin ethernet adaptor sold by the apple store, but I am skeptical this is the problem because I have tried three other adaptors and the same problem remained.

Keep in mind the most curious element here is that if I unplug the cable and plug it back in I get higher speeds right away.

thank you - I have made the changes to the settings you indicate but the speeds are still less than 100mbps, then I unplug and replug and they go up to 800mbps.

this is very strange.

I'd suspect it's the adaptors but I have swapped out 3 for comparison.

I also suspected that it was some kind of weird cable heating issue, but the speeds go down even when the comp hasn't been used. So there's no correlation with intense accessing or duration of access and the speeds going down.

Is it possible that google fiber is doing some kind of throttling that gets reset when I unplug and plug back in?
