FCPX - too many supered text levels, arrows etc.??

Building an animated graphic. Using FPCX text and Ripple Callouts (3rd party graphic elements from RippleTraining). Never had trouble before with this combo. With this graphic I've got a dozen layers of simple text and arrows and a dissolve happening. I get about 1/3rd of the way through the clip and the added elements start crapping out, not working, or popping in at random 10 seconds later – including the FCPX text.

I thought maybe it's just the playback that's the issue, too many layers, but the export should be fine. No. The exported ProRes has the exact same issue ... elements stalling, crapping out, or popping up late; and the dissolve ceases to be a dissolve, just an image popping off.

Does this ring any bells for anyone? I'm about to trash preferences and whatever else I can think of. I was copying the text clips instead of bringing in new ones (I once noticed that after so many copies of text clips I was having issues ... but that was two years and two versions of FCPX ago...).

Any ideas would be most appreciated ...

Maybe a render file got corrupted.

Try deleting render files, and then immediately export. Does it come out correctly?

I'll answer myself. In trying to get it to work I'd rendered the project on the timeline -- thinking maybe I was running too many layers (clips stacked). The rendering didn't fix the issue. And then I was working on it, partly rendered, partly un-rendered. And it was jamming, not working. I noticed that, when running, where I would hit a rendered section I'd suddenly have the effects jamming. So I copied the whole project and just moved it down the timeline a bit, so it was now all un-rendered. And suddenly it was working perfectly. I have no idea what was going on originally, or why rendering didn't help, but then became the actual problem. But when I made sure everything was un-rendered it started working perfectly.
