I have had a me.com email attached to another Apple ID since 2008 and use a main Apple ID to sign into my computers/iPhone etc. I now have a Samsung and want to still keep my me.com email, but I have to do a 2 step verification thing. My only problem is, is that I cannot access my email Apple ID to request the 2 step to be put into place as they say I am supposed to do it. I am frustrated. Can someone help? I know there has to be a way to do this.
Because I am signed into my iCloud on phone/tablet & MacBook, It won't let me access my other ID which is what I use for email. I use my original Apple ID for email only. So, I guess I am going to have to sign completely out of my iPad or iPhone & sign in to the other ID. I just didn't want to do the gymnastics. Can't do it by signing in to the iCloud web, it says to do it through the phone/tablet/MacBook. :'(
If you did not migrate that @me.com email to an iCloud account before MobileMe was shutdown in 2012, then as explained in the URL I provided, you no longer have that @me.com email address. It’s dead. The entire MobileMe service was shut off in 2012. Anyone who had not migrated to iCloud by them lost their @me.com accounts (and any @mac.com accounts they’d kept when they moved to MobileMe).
The only people with useable @me.com address are those who moved them to iCloud before the MobileMe shutdown in 2012, at which point the @me.com became an alias to the @icloud.com email address.
So if you have been using that @me.com address since 2012, then it is tied to an iCloud account and serves merely as an alternate login AppleID and email address for that iCloud account. So no, you cannot use it with any other AppleID you may have. And your trusted devices for 2 factor authentication codes can only be associated with one AppleID at any given time.
Since 2012, your @me.com address is nothing more than an alias to your @icloud.com address (iCloud: About your @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com email addresses - Apple Support). So you need to use the primary email, @icloud.com, not one of the @mac.com nor @me.com aliases to it.
Are you not able to access your Apple ID on line to set up 2 Factor Authentication? What happens when you try? Error message(s)?
This was my original Apple ID and yes I wanted to keep my email, but it is not an alias on my other iCloud account.
Can you add the address in Mail/Preferences/Accounts and in Settings/Passwords & Accounts? Have you tried the @iCloud alias as suggested by Michael?
I have no problem adding to my existing apple products, it's now that I am moving to a Note 10 plus and would like to continue with my apple email is where the problem is.
