I received an email stating that my Apple ID made a purchase of $49.99. When I click "Report Problem" to cancel it it directs me to your Apple Site, but then it wants my credit card information and social security number. I didn't make this purchase.

I have not filled anything out because I am concerned this may be a phishing scheme. Please advise me on what to do.

  • Apple does not include document, or PDF files to download.
  • Apple would not refer to you as Dear Customer, Dear Client, or anything other than the name on file for your account.
  • Apple would not have such horrible spelling or grammar.
  • Apple would not send a message to “Undisclosed Recipients”.

It is a phishing attempt. Do not respond. Do not divulge any personal or financial information. You can use the address below to forward the suspect email message, as an attachment to Apple.

It definitely sounds like a scam. Scammers often will reproduce a site physically to look identical to the real Apple site, but they cannot duplicate the URL. Apple will also never ask for your credit card info or SSN. Can you see the email address that the suspicious email was sent from? If you do not recognize the email, and your actual card has not actually been charge the $49.99 amount, I would mark the email as spam and delete it.
