My motion graphics artist is on vacay, so I have to make something work in FCPX.
Does anyone know of a third party "animated kerning" plugin? (Where the fonts "spreads out.")
I coulda swore FCPX had a stock effect.

The Custom Title can be used to create sequenced text behavior.
The parameters you're looking for are (with suggested starting points in parentheses):
Out Tracking (900+ %)
Out Opacity (0)
Out Duration (60)
Kerning is an individual character by character setting and best only used to set up the initial (or final) look of the text. It's not an option for spreading.

There are many titles that do this. It is just a matter of finding one that suits your needs, or do it as Fox suggested.
You may try the Text Spacing 3D. You can turn off the 3D text in the inspector.
