Yes it does.

The new 2019, 7th gen iPad contains the same CPU as the previous 2018, 6th gen iPad which IS the iPhone 7 A10 Fusion CPU.

This is the budget iPad.

Apple kept the CPU the same to keep the price points. the same.

The A10 Fusion chip is still a very capable CPU and still supports iOS 13/iPadOS 13.

With the new 7th gen iPad you now get a 1/2 inch larger screen at 10.2 inches on the diagonal.

The new 7th gen iPad now comes with 3 GBs of internal RAM vs only 2 GBs of internal RAM in the previous 6th gen iPad model.

Many reviewers of the 7th grn iPad feel that this iPad will still do everything a higher priced iPad can do albeit just a little slower.

The 7th gen iPad still only maxes out at 128 GBs of internal storage size, but that is plenty of storage for most users to deal with.

The new 7th gen iPad is still, basically, a 6th gen model with a slightly larger screen and additional RAM.

I am buying one of these for my wife very soon!

This iPad will be a huge upgrade for her from a nearly 8-year old iPad 3rd generation which only has a 1.0 Ghz CPU and 1 GB of internal RAM a single audio speaker, NO Apple Pencil support and only has 64 GBs of internal storage.

Since her old iPad doesn’t have a laminated screen, she will not notice nor care about the non-laminated/non-bonded screen on the new 7th gen iPad, either.

The screen experience will be similar, just slightly larger.

She'll still get that same crummy 1.2mp crawp front facing FaceTime camera, that Apple keeps insisting on using, but she'll get a much improved rear facing camera that is an 8mp camera instead of 5mp on her current iPad 3.

While the 2019 iPad Air 3 has a much faster A12X CPU w/neural/learning engine and a better quality color and laminated/bonded screen/display and better 7 mp front facing FaceTime cameras, it still uses the same exact chassis as the 7th gen iPad, still only has the one-sided, two speaker audio and still uses the same 1st gen Apple Pencil and runs thr same iPadOS.

Thr iPad Air 3 is $499 U.S.D. for only a base 64 GBs storage version. $429 U.S.D. gets you 128 GBs of internal storage on a 7th gen iPad.

The iPad Air 3 ONLY has the 256 GBs storage option and that is $225 more for another additional 128 GBs of storage.

The 7th gen iPad is still a bargain and still powerful enough to still get a few more years of full OS upgrades from Apple.

I bought a 6th gen iPad last year and find it just fine for what I do.

Surfing, email, playing a couple of games.

So some of it may come down to what you plan to use it for. Are you a high end user using processor intensive games and programs? Or just an average person wanting a portable computer like tablet?

Because the other side of the issue could be...well at $350ish (got mine off Black Friday sales), even if a 6th gen ages out sooner from app updates (And we have no confirmation that it will be that way), then a person may be more able to upgrade to a newer budget model in the future rather than a higher end model that may or may not last longer.

For me, the prospect of a new $300ish model ipad every 3 or so years is very manageable.

I’m also of the mindset, as much as I’d love an iPhone, I couldn’t not justify the several hundred dollars for a phone, instead I chose a mid level android phone because, for me, a $150 phone that works just fine that I replace every 3-4 years makes more sense than $500-$1000 for a phone.

The wider range makes the tech more accessible to more people.

Maybe to you.

I am NOT an iPhone user/fan.

I bought my wife a much cheaper iPhone SE that she has had for two years, now!

That was under $200 and is a nearly 4-year old iPhone that gets iOS 13, as well.

It works fine and she really likes the compact design and the fact you can operate the phone with one hand and her thumb.

Can't do that with the bigger iPhones.

I got my Mom an iPhone 8 ( no plus ) and you can barely operate THAT with one hand and thumb. Barely.

I use a cheap Android phone, but will be waiting to see which iPhone models really drop in price when the newer model iPhines come out in 2020.

I am looking for an under $400 iPhone. Either an iPhone 8, 8 plus or even an iPhone X, if the price is right!

I am an iPad user, first, as I can justify the costs of any iPad.

Can't really justify the costs and pricings of new, very expensive iPhones, now!

$1K or more for an iPhone is just ridiculous to me.

I spent over $1K for my 4-year old iPad Pro when they first came out!

That was an expensive iPad purchase then, but I justified it because I had waited out purchasing a new iPad ( I was still using a 4-year old iPad 2 at that time ) for 5-years waiting for Apple to make much larger screen iPads.

So, I jumped on that when that happened.

I use 2015/2016 iPad Pro daily and still use my now nearly 9-year old iPad 2 on and off regularly.

My pennance, from my wife, for purchasing such an expensive device is that I cannot purchase any more very expensive technology/electronics, any longer for the next 5-7 years!

I'd purchase any new iPad before purchasing a new iPhone.

iPhones are not iPads and vice versa.

I find an iPad more useful to me than any smart phone and the size of the phones now are soooo huge, they may as well be iPad Minis.

I saw someone at a movie theater recently with one of these huge screen iPhones, might as well hold an iPad Mini to your ear or face.

These new iPhones just seem ridiculously big to me.

Do these larger iPhones even fit in pants pockets, any longer?

Anyway the iPad 7th gen I believe is still a deal and I do not think Apple will retire it too early in iOS upgrade cycle.

The iPhone 7 processor handles iPadOS just fine.

Thank u for all of that info ! I guess my concern is like u said yes it will receive m a few more os updates but it will be out dated sooner than later And ur right the price is lower and that is a good thing but to buy something new and to have my iPhone X have a faster and better processor and is already 2 years old makes no sense to make that purchase

It does feature the A10 Fusion chip.

Apple also sells the iPad Air, which contains the A12 Bionic Chip, alongside other improvements like the True Tone display option or a laminated display. This device is more powerful, but also more expensive. (329$ vs. 499$)
