Using Word on a mac

I actually do need to use Word on my iMac. I need to start with a standardized template created in Word that simply does not import well in Pages (fine for all my other work!). Apparently there is a Cloud version of Word that requires something from Office or there is a downloadable version of Word that also requires something from Office??? I hesitate to buy and download when I do not know what I am getting into! This is currently a 2x a year event but might go to 3x per year. Help.

The Online version of Microsoft Word is entirely free. You can try it out at: https://www.office.com/

You will need to have a Microsoft Account (hotmail, live.com etc...)

The Downloadable version will require an Office 365 subscription however, tied to your Microsoft or Apple ID account. You can download the actual Word app for free to View files, but editing, saving and creating a new file will require the subscription be activated.
