Moved some older music files into my current I-Tunes folder, but I can't get I-Tunes to see them.

I copied some music files from a back up into my current I-Tunes>Media>Music folder but I-Tunes doesn't see them. Some were additional albums from artists already in I-Tunes, some were artists I didn't have in my current I-Tunes list. I thought by putting them in the music folder, I-Tunes would see them but it hasn't. Should I back up the whole shooting match, delete what is there now and then restore or is there something easier that I could do. I just spent a lot of time ripping my CDs to I-Tunes for my phone. I hate to have to do that all over again just to get some of these other albums I was missing (and no longer have physical copies of). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Simply putting music into the iTunes folders isn't enough. Once you've done that, in your iTunes programme, if you have a folder with two or more songs in it, go to File/Add Folder to Library. Navigate to the location of the folder , select it and click OK.

To add a single song, use File/Add File to Library. Again,, navigate to the location of the file (for that song) , select it and click on OK.

Hello willibus,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having trouble with some of your music files after copying them from a backup. I'd be happy to share information that may help.

Take a look at the "Restore from a backup" section of this article for the steps to take to restore your music files from a backup: Move your iTunes library to another computer.

Take care.

I had looked at the article you mention before, but what I didn't try was moving the .itl files. There were several in the older folder that I was dragging the music files from. I don't want to completely mess up my Itunes library, but if I drag those older .itl files into the current folder, would that help? I copied some files (of the songs I was missing) from the old folder into the current one. I don't want to copy the whole thing over as it would create quite a few duplicates.

I had previously tried "consolidate files" but that didn't do anything.
