I have just started setting up my new macbook pro, half started, then went back to migrate settings and documents and realise I need to start from the beginning again as it is all getting a bit messy. How do I go about this?

Not knowing the current state of the Mac, it is probably wise to start over. Even erase the disk. Follow the instructions in the link below.
