Turning off my iPad on screen keyboard when using my Smart Keyboard

I am missing something simple. I have an iPad and the Smart Keyboard. What are the steps to turn off the on-screen keyboard when the Smart Keyboard is attached?

That on screen keyboard on bottom right corner should have a keyboard icon with an arrow pointing downward

you can try to see if that arrow will help

Actually if the keyboard is paired/connected, it should automatically not show the on screen keyboard, however if it does, there should be a icon in the bottom right corner of the on screen keyboard that looks like a keyboard. Tap that, and the on screen keyboard should disappear. But to be honest, I would double-check your Smart Keyboard as the on screen keyboard should not appear when you are using the Smart Keyboard.
