how to password protect a folder to share

Hiya guys,


How would I password protect a folder to share?

or share a link to a file in my iCloud but to access it, the recipient would need a password?

Create a folder on the desktop , right click over the desktop and create a new folder , then create a file using text edit and save in the location iCloud Drive .

Open finder , in desktops drag and drop that file once again in the folder to get it merged .

Right click on the folder use get info , open the small lock and enter your admin password , check mark the box locked , a small lock icon will appear on the blue folder shown in the screen shot and close the golden lock and the window .

Again right click on the folder in the finder and share with mail ,notes , messages ...

Thanks for posting your question. I see you want to know about password protection for shared documents.


To clarify one point, iCloud Drive folder sharing is not a feature that's currently available. It is mentioned in this resource, iOS 13 - Features, with the post-script that it is expected in the spring.


Regarding sharing files, while there's not a way to password protect a file in iCloud, it would only be available to the people you opt to share it with. You can learn more about this here: Use iCloud File Sharing to share documents with other iCloud users
