7th gen ipod nano won't upgrade

I just got a "new" iPod Nano 7th gen to replace one with a broken screen. I assume they're both from the mid-2015 update; they're both space grey, which I don't think was available in the first release. The "new" one came with firmware 1.0.4, while the other one is 1.1.2. I've tried to upgrade it via iTunes, but it keeps telling me that 1.0.4 is the newest version. I even have the 1.1.2 ipsw and signature in my iPod Software Updates directory, but no dice. Any suggestions?

Space Gray was one of the colours available in both years.
