Keep Wifi but don't check for wireless network

Hello,

Using iphone 4, My battery is draining like crazy, I RTFM'ed Apple's docs and they said if to turn off searching for wireless network if you are not in a place that has it, which is the place I am staying right now. So, I turn to airplane mode, it also seems to turn off Wifi network, so I can't browse internet or do other things...

Is there a way to turn off looking for wireless network but still keep the wifi connection?

thanks,

dan

ok, my terminology was a bit off, by wireless I meant the cellular network - if i am out of range for that, but i still want to use the wifi... specifically I am trying to following this recommendation of apple: "Use Airplane Mode in low- or no-coverage areas: Because your iPhone always tries to maintain a connection with the cellular network, it may use more power in low- or no-coverage areas. Turning on Airplane Mode can increase battery life in these situations; however, you will be unable to make or receive calls. To turn on Airplane Mode, go to Settings and set Airplane Mode to On."

yeah, i talked to apple support, basically, need to have airplane mode off to get wifi, but can go to settings -> general -> Network and turn off 3G and Cellular Data, and also Settings -> General -> Location Services and turn that off (this is used for example to get current location on google maps), this has helped battery time a lot.
