Apple Card won't add to Wallet

I applied for an Apple Card via the Wallet app on my iPhone 8 running IOS 13.3. I received the "Welcome to Apple Card" email, but 20 minutes later, the Wallet app still displays the "adding card" message with the spinning network activity symbol. How long should I wait for it to complete? Is it safe to close the app? Thanks for your help.
