It depends on the type of device you are attempting to pair, instructions are in https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/connect-a-bluetooth-device-blth1004/mac

If you told us what type of device you are trying to pair we can likely tell you if it will work or not. Also, refer to the devices manual to check to see if it is compatible with your Mac.
