When I bought my computer, I had an ESC key in the touch bar, a Caps Lock, a Control, an Option and a Command key on my keyboard; all of which are very useful for me.
The ESC key on the touch bar needs to come back for my 15 inch MacBook Pro. I should be able to keep all of the keys my computer came with when bought.

I partially tried what you suggested, and it seems to have fixed my issue.
I rebooted my computer in Recovery Mode. Once there rather than re installing the Os, I decided just to quit and reboot the computer from there.
That brought my ESC key back. No need to reinstall the OS.

Since your Touch Bar still works, and it’s just the Escape key thats not working as expected, its almost certainly a software issue, which is actually good news. I’d recommend booting into MacOS Recovery mode, and reinstalling MacOS. This won’t affect any of your files, but may reset some of your settings, which could fix the problem.
You should still have your Escape key even after updating. If you don’t there might be a bug in MacOS. I’d recommend first contacting Apple directly, and if they can’t solve it, report it as a bug at https://feedbackassistant.apple.com/
I did the full re-install and confirm that this worked a treat.
Depending on the app, is what I see. For example in excel I see a clipboard (paste) option where the ESC used to be.
When logging in to the computer, the touch bar is blank in that area, so if I want to make my computer sleep again, i have to use the mouse to click cancel rather than ESC.
While using my browser, the key is gone.
In outlook a "create new email" key is in place of the ESC.
and so on....
What do you see in place of the Escape key? Is your entire Touch Bar blank? Does the contents of the Touch Bar change based on what app is in focus?

That's what you would think, but after reviewing all the info about it. They just say you can use optional keys or "switch" to another app to make it appear.
Switching apps does not help, and using optional keys just messes with my workflow, as I use the keys they pretend me to use.
Bring back the ESC key on touchbar
