Aug 1, 2010 8:19 AM in response to Sleeptiteby brentboren,★HelpfulI agree, I'm stuck reading my iBooks on my iPhone. That's great when I'm traveling, but I'd much rather use my big screen when I'm home. Please add this Apple!! -
Aug 4, 2010 7:32 PM in response to Sleeptiteby Jayson Kish,Though it is not an Apple supplied solution, there are applications for the Desktop out there that will open the ePub format. One in-particular is Adobe Digital Editions.
http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/
It's a free solution, available both on the the Mac and Windows based PC's. -

Aug 7, 2010 9:31 AM in response to brentborenby Tom Gewecke,Couldn't get it to read books bought from Apple.
Normally ebooks you buy from a store are protected by DRM and you can't read them in some other app except by removing that. -
Sep 29, 2010 11:05 PM in response to Sleeptiteby dodden,I would love to use iBooks, but until I know I can read in Win7 and Linux as well as my iPhone, then I will have to pass. This will equal no sales for iBooks for me... Sorry Apple. -
Nov 27, 2010 11:15 PM in response to doddenby QueryAll,I have to agree, if I can't read my eBooks purchased at apple on my computers as well as my itouch/iphone/ipad, then it is not a good solution.
If you have the same thoughts please make your voice heard http://www.apple.com/feedback/ -
Nov 29, 2010 9:33 PM in response to QueryAllby gswank2,I sent my feedback. I buy and read 80+ books a year, but none of them will be iBooks until I can access them on my laptop as well as my iPhone. -

Oct 31, 2011 2:52 PM in response to Sleeptiteby shadofax31pearson,I have to agree, I am frustrated that I have to resume reading an iBook on my phone during the 4+ hours it takes to charge my iPad. I can read a kindle book on my PC, why not iBooks? Apple, please tell us this is in development?

Oct 31, 2011 2:57 PM in response to shadofax31pearsonby varjak paw,Apple won't respond here at all, and won't say anything about products or features they haven't officiall announced. We'll all have to wait and see what happens. Meanwhile, it's a good reason to buy e-books from one of the vendors that provides apps across platforms, such as Amazon, Barnes and Nobel and Google, rather than from the iTunes Store.
BTW, jumping into a thread that was last active over ten months ago usually isn't very productive.

Oct 31, 2011 4:39 PM in response to Sleeptiteby David Grover,Agreed. But there's another even bigger problem:
I purchased the Steve Jobs biography from iTunes.
Then after starting it I received an offer of a free updated version.
I have made many notes and bookmarks throughout while reading and as a teacher these annotations assist me in selecting passages to read to my classes in computing.
I asked Apple Support if the new version will eliminate all these bookmarks and notes?
or was there a way for me to retain BOTH versions?
herewith their reply:
Dear David,
.......I understand that you would like to download the updated version of "Steve Jobs" but are concerned that your notes and annotations will be lost. I can certainly appreciate your concern and will be glad to help correct this issue.
Unfortunately, the notes and annotations are tied to each iBook. Deleting the iBook would cause you to lose those notes and annotations. In this situation, I recommend either downloading the updated version to a different device or not downloading it all together.
I apologize for any inconvenience this issue may cause. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I'll be more than happy to assist you with whatever you need. Thank you for being a valuable member of the Apple family, we truly appreciate your continued support.
Sincerely,
iTunes Store/Mac App Store Customer Support
Valued books need longevity. Sir Isaac Newton's legacy library was used to determine his interests via the annotations he made - even the dog eared folds he used to make page corners point to important/interesting bits on a page! Then there's Fermat's Last theorem!!!
We need iBooks with more permanancy. They need longevity, portability, quotability and lendability.
