installd running too long and too hot!!

installd ran for 33 minutes and made my computer really hot. I tried to quit using activity monitor but it would not stop, and I was afraid to force quit. After it finally quit I turned off automatic update to try to prevent this in the future. Is this normal? Is there something else I should do? I have 2019 macbook pro with catalina.

There's a lot happening during an OS installation or upgrade - the installer has to unpack, files are written to the SSD and the old OS is deleted from the SSD. Yes, the computer will run hot and a computer with loud fans (like my MB Air) will be loud for a while. I doubt you experienced anything abnormal.
