It has noting to do with the ear. It has to do with the mic. For example when I am talking to him all I can hear is whatever is going on around him. Most of the time it even over powers his voice. For example he will in a room with two other people who are having a conversation and i can hear their conversations better than him.

Hello, sadstorme.

I understand that two sets up AirPods are picking up more background noise than is preferable. It sounds like these may be AirPod Pros. If my assumption is correct, you may be triggering Transparency Mode. The support article I’m linking below has information about the feature as well as instructions for turning it on and off.

AirPods Pro Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode

I hope this helps.

Best Regards.

sadstorme,

It sounds like Live Listen may be enabled on one or both of your devices. From Apple:

"With Live Listen, your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can act like a microphone that sends sound to your AirPods or Powerbeats Pro. Live Listen can help you hear a conversation in a noisy area or even hear someone speaking across the room."

You can read more about the feature here: Use Live Listen with AirPods and Powerbeats Pro.

If you find that this isn't the case, you might go ahead and contact Apple Support.

Regards.
