How fast of a download speed should I expect with the iPhone 4 wifi? With wifi connected to my home wireless network and running speedtest.net I am receiving results of about 1 Mbps download and 4 Mbps upload.

I get 8 down and 5 up. but that is just testing cities around me, ie denver.
mac wired to the Airport Extreme
11.27 Mbps Down 4.01 Mbps Up
Iphone 4 (with Speedtest.net app) Connected Wifi to same Airport extreme
8.28 Mbps Down 4.51 Mbps up
My internet is 12 down and 5 up So its pretty close
Btw In my lower coverage area (two bars with 4.0.1)
My 3g Speed is
1.68 Mbps Down .10 Mbps up
haha

I have Virgin Media UK 50mb down and 1.6mb up, I get my full speed 95% of the time on my desktop (wired) or laptop (wireless).
The fastest I can get on my iPhone 4 using a Netgear WNDR3700 is 13mb down and my full 1.6mb up.
My old 3GS managed 12mb down and 1.6mb up. So WiFi speed is almost identical to the 3GS.

I'm getting speeds of 9.51 Mbps up and 2.45 Mbps down.
You should be getting about the same speed as you would on your computer. I have a toshiba satellite and it gets about 4700 kbps down and 560 kbps up. My iPhone gets around 4350 kbps down and 540 kbps up. This is 4.25 down and .52 up in Mbps. Of course it all depends on the type of wifi you have. Different internet connection speeds vary but your phone should be getting around the same numbers as say a laptop.
The comparisons are meaningless because different networks, different speeds and different times of the day.
On my home network (Qwest DSL), I show 8.6 Mbps down and .7 Mbps up per speedtest.net.

Different networks give you different results, but I still find it useful to see what people report in their particular circumstances.
Here at home I got 10 to 12 Mbps down, only 1 Mbps up. My router is a Linksys E3000. It's in mixed mode so I expect my phone to use the 802.11n.

I have the same Linksys router and my speeds are just about the same as yours.
I had a similar problem where on settings it would say I am connected to wifi, but on the home page would say 3G. I had this problem since i either connected to another wifi outside my default wifi, or since iOS 4.0.2.
The issue was that it was not actually connected to wifi and the slow settings was the connection of 3G and not wifi!
My resolution was found as i checked that my iPhone was cnnecting but not getting a DHCP address. When checking my router i could see the iPhone was connected so I manually put the IP address ont the iPhone and this fixed the wifi for my home router. Not sure what would happen on a cloud resource where IP is DHCP only.
I am leaning towards that IOS 4.0.2 has a bug with the DHCP Client and therefore not picking up addresses correctly.

Is Speedtest app for iPhone only supposed to measure up to ten Mbps? Is there one that goes over ten so I can see if it gets 20? Thanks.
I just bought Linksys e3000 router and it's supposed to do good wireless. I have an iphone, and after connecting it through wifi, I ran speedtest app. It does show only 0-10Mbps gauge, but I think it detects speed over 10Mbps. Mine gets around 9 - 10.5Mbps.
However, my problem is that speed is significantly lower than my Macbook Pro wifi speed. I'm getting 24Mbps on my laptop wifi and 26Mbps on wired desktop pc. I think iDevices should get similar speed, but it's less than 1/2 speed. I checked my iPad speed, and it's same result as iPhone.
Can Apple tech support tell us what the maximum wifi speed is for iPhone and iPad? I know it's not signal issue because I'm testing it right next to the wifi router...

Agree. Unless we're comparing the same ISP with same router the data is meaningless since all the wireless devices on the network may get different WIFI speed results depending on what time the test was done and how much load is on the network. Example I have several MacBooks and iPhones connected via WIFI to a Time Capsule. Test one with Speedtest.net app showed download results at 19 Mbps, test two gave the result of 15 Mbps. My network is running in 802.11b/g compatibility mode at 2.4 GHz so as to be compatible with older hardware such as my office All-in-One printer/scanner.
For those of you using a Linksys E3000 for your WiFi connection, Linksys released a firmware upgrade 1.0.03 (build 2) on 9/7/2010. In the release notes, it mentions the following fix:
- Fixed issue of decreased WAN speeds.
I have also experienced slow wifi speeds with my iPhone 4.0.2, and I haven't tried the firmware update yet, but other forums and posts I've seen seem to indicate even firmware 1.0.01 resolves the speed issue with iPhones.

I have the Mobile speed test app.
I have recorded 30 Megabit download (3.5 megs per second)
and about 1.1 megabit upload (0.12 megs per second)
But i dont know how accurate the app is.
