how to find my lost apple magic mouse / magic keyboard?
Hi, I'm guessing that I'm not the only one around having a playful 3 y/o kid that like to hide things and forgot where the minute after.
His last victime was my MM2, and I saw very few helpful tips.
The way I solved this is to move the iMac which the mouse is bound to around the place, open a terminal and launch:
"system_profiler SPBluetoothDataType"
This command line will list all bluetooth devices in range but since the mouse is bound to the mac, it will recognize it (where usual BLE scanners won't) and give you a RSSI reading. Then it's a hot/cold game.
Plug your iMac in a room, with a powercord extender so you can move it around a bit without shutdown/restart every other meter.
Launch the command, and when you read around 60/65 you're getting closer.
60 you're 1 or 2m away, below is in a vicinity of roughly 50 cm.
To give you other comparison elements, 70 is probably in next room, behind a wall.
80 2 rooms away, 2 walls.
Enjoy not-buying-a-new-mouse.
