Help! Where is my finished movie file?

I just used iMovie 10 to make a congratulations video for the wedding of a friend, which I can't attend. The wedding is tomorrow and...

The movie looks exactly like I want it to when I play it in iMove. I tried to save it to a file using:

File -> Share -> File...

A dialog box popped asking me to resolution, etc. (it wouldn't let me name the file). I set it how I wanted and clicked on the "Next..." button and the dialog box went away and I received no other messages.

Please help! Where is the file? I need to send it by tomorrow morning.

When you hit "Next" you should have gotten a "Save As" box where you could name your movie and designate a destination (i.e, Desktop) for the movie. Since you didn't get such a box your movie did not share out. Go back to your project and share it out again.

If still the same problem there might be a corrupt preference that is impairing the share procedure. Try opening iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your project. Now see if you can share out.

If still no luck try doing an Edit/Select All, Edit/Copy, of the media in your project and Edit/Paste it into the timeline of a newly created project. Then try to share out from there.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the reply.

I tried to share the movie as a file again, and this time the "Save As" dialog box popped up. No idea why it wasn't popping up earlier this evening.

Now I just need to figure out how to get a 150MB video file through the Great Firewall of China (where my friend is getting married).

Glad that it is working for you now. Strange how sometimes inexplicable glitches occur.

I think that Google operates in China. So you might try uploading your video to You Tube and then sending the link to your friends in an email, and then they can click on the link and view the video. This would assume that China allows access to You Tube. You probably could use a similar process to upload to Instagram, Vimeo, or Facebook.

Thanks for the reply Rich. Unfortunately, Google, Facebook, Vimeo, and Instagram are all blocked in China. As is Dropbox, and most other means of transmitting large data files.

I tried Firefox Send. That's a relatively new service, so maybe the Chinese government hasn't started blocking it yet.

Cheers,

Clint

Thank you for being so helpful, Rich.

Unfortunately, the bottleneck is in China. There are limits on the size of email attachments people can receive.

There are web-based services for large file transfers. I'll try a couple of them. Hopefully one will go through. My friend's wedding starts in about 9 hours.
