my MacBook Air won’t switch on

Hi my MacBook Air won’t switch on. It makes the power on sound but when it gets to the next screen ( black with Apple) it powers down. The power cable is staying green when plugged in. Hoping it can be saved. Any advise to get it on is appreciated thank you?
