Backup will not restore because find my iphone, but it is already turned off

I have an iPhone XS that recently died and is unable to turn on. I wanted to restore an old computer (Mac) backup to my new phone but I keep getting the error that Find My must be turned off first. As I am unable to access the XS, I removed it from my iCloud and Find My through my account online. I am still receiving the error, however and am not sure what else I can do.

Good afternoon Jcolezz15,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand you are trying to set up a new iPhone from an iTunes backup of your previous iPhone XS.

I would suggest setting up the iPhone "as new" initially. Then look at restoring data if needed after your new iPhone is up and running.

Set up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you had iCloud enabled for contacts, calendars, notes, photos, etc., all you need to do is enable these features again on your new iPhone for the data to populate. This information would not be in a backup because it is already in iCloud.

Change your iCloud feature settings

Your purchases would not be in a backup either. So, if you are using the same Apple ID account, you can download any of your purchases to the new iPhone.

Redownload apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books

You may not need to restore from a backup after doing the steps above. But if you still want to restore from a backup, I would assume that you have a more current iCloud backup than your older iTunes backup.

Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If you can't find any iCloud backups, then try the iTunes backup again after updating the iTunes software and restarting your computer:

What operating system and iTunes version do you have on the computer?

Update to the latest version of iTunes

Please reply to this thread if the issue persists after trying the steps above, and I'll do my best to help you with this!

Take care.
