Hi.
my phone and my ex’s phone are linked. If something sends me a iMessage he has been receiving it and in my account it shows I’m contactable at his number how do I remove it. I have changed my Apple password so it logs him out as well as removing the phone phone from account. Is that all I need to do?
will he still receive my messages? I need to fix this as he hasn’t moved on and I’m being abused as he is seeing my messages.
please help me!

Are you sharing an Apple ID with your ex? If so, you need to create a new ID to keep your data separate from your ex.
When changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed.
