Apple earpods pro connect to wifi

I just noticed that my AirPods pro are showing connected on my WiFi network. Is there a reason for that? And how do I disable that?

After a chat with Apple I was told this is to enable find my it in case it gets lost. My point is this wasn’t advertised and a privacy breach, as it can be transmitting communications and other info, they are arranging a call back to see into this.

Any better explanation out there?

AFAIK, AirPods do not use Wi-Fi directly. For both Siri and Find My, the device that the AirPods are connected to do require Internet access, either by a wired or wireless connection to a local router which does have Internet connectivity. The AirPods do have a Bluetooth-related MAC address, but they don't have an IP address, so they are not routable directly to the Internet.

The AirPods rely on Bluetooth for communicating to their host device. Whether that device is an iOS, macOS, or Windows device.

Unfortunately, I do not have a pair of AirPods to verify the above statements ... as I would attempt to do a data capture, using something like Wireshark to see what IP traffic, if any, the AirPods use.

Could you please provide a screen shot of where you are seeing that your AirPods are connecting to your wireless network?
