Purchased movie not available via family sharing on Apple TV 3rd gen

I've bought a movie in iTunes. This movie is shared via family sharing on all devices of all family members, but NOT on the Apple TV (3rd gen). For the movie to be available in the Apple TV I have to login with the Apple ID which has made the original purchase.

Is this default behavior or is something weird going on?

This is expected behavior of Apple TV (3rd generation). Its support ended prior to Family Sharing’s functionality being what it is today.
