Spinning Network Activity Wheel Spins When No Apps Are Open

Since the late 2019 iOS updates, whenever I go to my iPad home screen, whether apps are open in the background, or all closed, the network activity wheel begins to spin. As long as I am working in an app and no data is being requested within it, the wheel isn’t spinning. However, as soon as the app is minimized or closed the spinning begins and doesn’t stop.

I’ve searched the forums and found that this was an issue on iPhones in the past. Now it seems to have been passed off to the new iPad OS.

I tried one of the solutions from the iPhone posts, to do a hard reset, but it did not work, the wheel still spins.

Has anyone else found a solution? Or, is this a known issue?

iPad, iOS 13

I might have thought so too, but I use iCloud for very few services. If updating changes to my iCloud services were the case, one would:

  • expect it to only occur after making changes within a service connected to iCloud
  • expect it to stop after a few seconds or
  • I would also expect to see the same phenomenon occurring on my iPhone,

But none of the above are the case.
