iMac screen saver launches dark and then screen turns to black

My Screen Saver launches as though in Dark Mode and then in a minute goes to black. If I launch the Screen Saver from a Hot Corner, it displays properly. Any ideas for a fix? I tried unchecking requiring password to wake from sleep, and also unchecking Prevent computer from sleeping. Neither works.

In the Screen Saver window within System Preferences, I have selected Ken Burns=>Cosmos. The sample window comes up nicely with the Cosmos images. I selected 20 minutes as the 'Start after' time. However, before the 20 minutes of inactivity, the screen goes black, and I never see the screen saver. I tap one of the keyboard's control keys and after a few seconds my re-login screen appears and I go from there. What's happening? Am I missing something else I could/should be setting? gray Home Screen/wallpaper on iMac that will not change hello. I downloaded the new macOS last night. Everything was fine and dandy and the new screensavers/wallpaper were working great. this morning when I woke up the Mac it went to a gray wallpaper and it will not change. The screensaver works just fine but when I go back to the Home Screen it instantly goes back to the gray background. Ive reset it a few times already today. When I go into settings it shows that the wallpaper(Grand Canyon at dusk) is selected. when you tell it to go to the Lock Screen the screen saver instantly comes on and does it thing. this is driving me nuts. ive tried to change wallpapers and nothing will get the gray background off.

I figured it out....my display was sleeping before my computer....issue resolved!
