deleting Mojave Security Update installer packages?

Hello! I am running 10.14.6 Mojave.

I had a security update last month.

in Library -> Updates, I have 7 related installer packages in a folder 061-12717 (Secupd2019-002Mojave.pkg, etc), 1.57GB total.

Can I delete these? If so, how?

Right-click (nor the normal Command-delete key combo) does not give me the option to Move to Trash,

If they are still there, then the update did not occur. You should try rebooting the computer to see if the updater completes the installation. Do not erase the files or the folder.

On a related matter, in the future you should stay out of the /Library/ folder. Users deleting files in that folder without knowing the consequences can completely disable the computer. This is why Apple has implemented new security to prevent you from deleting or changing anything in that folder. Disabling this mechanism will greatly increase the computer's security risk.

Thank you! I had to go to Software Update in System Preferences, found the option to install the security update, went ahead with it and, after restarting and waiting 20 minutes, it was installed - AND those installer packages had disappeared.

Thank you for the rest of the helpful information. I have a couple of app uninstaller utilities on my laptop, but have been lazy about using them.

Have generally followed "good user practices" in the years since the mid-80s that I have owned Macs. Very few issues.

It just struck me as odd that I had those installer packages around, when they usually disappear. Looks like a software error.

Thank you for being so helpful.

If you have kept the update installer, then try running it again. With luck it will overwrite those files, then delete them at the end like it should.

There are areas on the drive that you should stay away from unless you know what you are doing, and, if you make a mistake, how to recover. The System and Library folders at the root directory should be left alone. They make up all of the operating system. There is also a Library folder in your Home folder (HDD/Users/user_name.) There are some folders that are used by macOS but also folders used by applications. The main one of interest is the Preferences folder that contains application preference or configuration files. The other one of interest is called Applications Support. It contains additional files used by the applications. Deleting files from either folder is generally innocuous because the applications the make them will make them again, automatically. You may lose settings, profiles, or configurations but no other damage.

I suggest installing an application uninstaller utility that will hunt down an application's supplemental files and remove them if you delete the application. There are many good ones out there. You can save disk space by not installing anti-malware software and following good user practices. macOS has built-in anti-malware protection which Apple updates automatically. Avoiding Internet and email scams is a good way to stay out of trouble.

Hello!

I rebooted, afaik nothing was updated. Files are still there.

How do I get the updater to take care of the security update installation?

Great to know that Apple is keeping me out of trouble!!

(Here is the reason I saw those files: I ran GrandPerspective, and I was checking out some of the larger files, was curious about this one). But thanks for enlightening me!!!
