Why can't Safari figure out where I am?

While using Safari, Google Maps can't seem to find me. It still thinks I live in Kansas City, but I now live on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. I have tried the steps suggested by Safari in System Preferences>Security & Privacy.

I also can't access Hulu+ while using Safari -- Hulu says that it can't verify my location. I have none of these problems when using Firefox. I use a MacBook Pro I(13", 2017) and run Mojave 10.14.6 (18G2022).

Hiya NineMile,

The Apple Support Communities really appreciate that you decided to post this issue. It appears that Google Maps and Hulu+ aren’t able to discover your current location. I’m happy to help out.

You’ve already taken a great step by checking the settings in Security & Privacy. What was enabled or disabled there?

It might also be a good idea to check the location settings for those specific websites. You can do that by following step two in the section “Customize the active website” found here: Customize settings for each website in Safari on Mac

Wishing you the best!

Thanks cp from OH. I have tried everything that you have suggested. The problem remains: when I open google maps in Safari, it still thinks I live in Kansas City. When I click on the location finder in the lower right hand corner of google maps - only when using Safari - most of the time I get a message saying my location could not be determined. Once in a great while, and apparently quite randomly, google maps will find me when I click the location finder.

I'm getting to the point where I'll just switch my browser to Firefox.
