I don't quite get what's up with the box or yours if it's similar. That's not a standard model number. Mine has a part number on the box that's the same as the standard model number. A typical model number should be something like M****A/LL. That would mean new (M) revision A and then a country code (LL is for the United States and Canada).

Not that this may be the answer, but I have seen model numbers starting with other letters in different countries. However, I do not know where you are or what country you bought it in. Have you tried to google the model number?

For one thing, a refurbished model purchased from Apple would be advertised as refurbished and offered in their refurb section. They would not sell a new one unless it was a new one.
