Can't change Apple ID account photo, keeps reverting to the old one again

Have tried different places, different devices and browsers, but I am not able to change the Apple ID main photo. Trying the source in icloud.com because the old incorrect photo keeps showing in devices like apple tv etc, but photo is correct in iphone (sometimes reverts to the old photo, but after putting "my information" correct in Settings/Siri&Search, photo in phone is correct, and only in the phone. Therefor I have been focusing on icloud.com to change the main photo for the apple id account, but with no luck.

I'd like to clarify, when you navigate (on your iPad) to Settings > Your Name, do you see a photo at the top of that screen? If so, is there an option for "Edit"? Can you tap on the photo, then tap "Take Photo"? Let's see if you can take a new photo, then save it as your Apple ID photo. This will help rule out any issues with saved photos/compatibility.


If this continues, go ahead and try changing the photo for your contact card in the Contacts app, then go back to Settings and change it there once more.


Another option is to sign out of your Apple ID on all devices, then login with your Apple ID at iCloud.com. From there, try changing the photo, then check if it saves. Keep in mind, signing out of your Apple iD will remove saved music from your iPad if you use Apple Music, but they can be redownloaded in the future.


I recommend you Contact Apple Support if these steps don't resolve the issue with your photo.

Hi, thank you for your reply.


I tried what you suggested, cleaned out browser history and cookies etc. but with no luck. I can either drag or choose photo and it appears correctly in the photo frame in the pop up box, but after clicking OK it does not show in frame on page, or the old photo just reappears again. The file type is jpg and size is less than 100KB, just normal. I'm working on Lenovo pc, using Chrome browser. I also tried to change this on icloud.com from my ipad as well and different browsers in my pc, but no luck. Strange bug...

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! From your post, it sounds like you've been trying to change the photo for your Apple ID, but it's not saving successfully.


I see in the screenshot you sent where it shows "Drag Photo Here". Are you able to drag a photo or select "Choose Photo"? If so, do you see any errors, maybe regarding the size or file type?


If you use a Mac, you can also try updating your photo in System Preferences as shown here:


Select your Apple ID picture on Mac - Apple Support


Another step you can take is restarting your device(s) and clearing your browser history, then trying to change the photo once more from iCloud.com.


Feel free to post an update for additional support from the Community.
