Notes have been disappearing from iPhone?

I can't believe nobody has commented on this issue. I rely on notes to store important information. Now the notes are disappearing. I power down, then try and store the notes sometimes they permanently save, other times they don't. I now have to look in the app store for a decent notepad or memo application. More people should speak out about this issue it cannot be only us two!

I started having this problem after I downloaded the new OS4 for the iPhone. I noticed last week in a seminar I was at that after a page full of seminar notes, all my notes disappeared.
I brain dumped my learnings down onto the note again, and sure enough after a while it all vanished again. I noted in the top left hand corner the swirling icon next to the 3G symbol. I was wondering whether my notes were being 'sent somewhere' and maybe this caused the problem.
I created another new note, my third attempt to brain dump my learnings. It disappeared. I gave up and sat through the seminar and ignored my apple device.
i am really disappointed and paranoid now about using notepad. I don't have any confidence that my notes will be stored. Any existing notes, I am scared of opening or editing, in case something happens and it all disappears.
This problem did not happen with the previous version. I wonder what has changed with this app, such that it is not reliable anymore?

I just noticed this for the first time a few days ago. I had created a note, went back in to add some data, then came back later and it was gone. When I checked this morning, the note was gone entirely! This is NOT a minor issue!

This has also been happening to me. I also noticed the swirling "data sending/receiving" icon in the status bar, like its sending my notes somewhere, but I don't know where (I don't have MobileMe or anything). This is very frustrating, because I use notes to make lists, and now I always lose them. I will have to get a free notes app from the app store I guess, since 4.0.1 did not fix this. Hopefully Apple is coming up with a major overhaul 4.1 that actually fixes bugs (since it appears all 4.0.1 does is make the cell bars larger).

It's an on and off problem with the iOS4. Several have this issue and it's partly due to an OTA notes sync problem. It can't reach the OTA carrier and removes all new notes. You can temporarily resolve this by:
* Settings > Mail
* Select mail carrier
* Advanced Settings
* Notes (OFF)
* Save

So far this solution looks very promising. I had a Yahoo! account that was apparently trying to sync notes for some reason. Now when I edit notes, it doesn't even try to connect to anything, thank goodness. Thanks for posting this!

Was also having this issue...glad to hear I am not the only one...I think the solution noted above solves it...I actually had the problem that notes that I deleted were reappearing (in addition to notes I created disappearing)...I immediately noticed one phantom note that would not delete went away when I changed that setting....Thanks for the tip

My computer prompted me to update to new apple software and now my notes icon disappeared completely on my iphone. I am a new iphone and apple user. I am not sure what to make of this. I checked all the settings on itune. It suppose to sync. with my desktop outlook notes everytime I sync. The status bar appears to "go through" the motion of synching, but nothing actually happen. I tried making sure the iphone setting, Note is off like one of the post said; it made no difference. I am not sure if I have the same problem you all mentioned or a different one. Any ideas? I do rely on my notes to keep track of stuff remotely. It would be a big bummer if this function no longer works.

I noticed this last night when adding some Info to a note. The new info kept disappearing. I do have MobileMe and when I checked my @me addy there were my missing notes. Weird.

I hardly use the notes application so I havn't personally come across this problem, but if there is multiple people getting the same issue then it should be looked into.

Contact Apple and forward them to this thread.

I have also been having this problem. The only solution that I can find is selecting the "notes on my iPhone" account, but even still, I can't figure out why the notes are disappearing. It is incredibly frustrating.
