can we import midi file into Motion 5 ?

Oh I know it's very unlikely... LOL... The disappointing thing about it is that you can actually import a text file from an external source. You still can't do much with it. You cannot publish the File "Browse" parameter and open anything from FCPX... (and half the time during Motion's existence, using this feature would crash Motion...). There's already a MIDI behavior — but it only accepts "live"/real-time control. The File - Browse parameter could be rolled into that.

The thing that kills me is that in the 90s I wrote several MIDI based applications (I also wrote a whole lot of "resource" code like custom windows, menus, controls, desk accessories, etc.). That was for the 68K Macs and using C, which I loved. Then came C++ which sucked (a million miles of "other people's code") and in the early 2000s, the Mac went over to a Unix core. Over time came Objective C which should be called objectionable C... so I haven't gotten into writing FxPlug stuff. If I had, I still have all that old MIDI code (parsing files, etc...) Long story short — there was a time I could have written what I wanted myself. At this point, I just don't have the time to learn yet another new language (and the core API) and I'm left with the unusual vision to see how it could be implemented... but it won't be from me... and realizing that there is nobody else out there that's interested in doing it. Like I said: I've wanted the feature since Motion 3... That's what? About 10 years or so now? So yeah, it ain't gonna happen. ;)

It would be nice, all right, but not something that I think is likely.

It is fairly easy to open s midi file in GarageBand, save as an audio file and use that in Motion, though.

I understand that, but what you are thinking of goes way beyond the ability to import MIDI files, and would involve probably a completely new pane in the interface; plus Motion does not seem to care much about audio... all this this tells me it is unlikely to happen.

It would be nice, of course.

I've wanted this feature since Motion 3... don't hold your breath. I also want the ability to build a template that allows importing a MIDI file into Final Cut and have the template responsive to data changes — but that ability isn't even available in standard Text File generators.

I want access to Note On/Off (with velocity), Program and Controller messages... Once you "realize" a MIDI file in a DAW, it's finished and Audio Behavior responses to pitch are affected by harmonics and other transient "noise". Imagine what you could do for music education if you had clean data to drive, say, 3D models of keyboards ;)
