Apple Diagnostics for Mac. Are they good?

I'd like to get opinions on Apple's embeded tests for Macs (I wonder if these tests are programmed in a hidden partition, in the firmware or they're downloaded from the cloud).

These tests seem like very shallow compared to those used by Apple Service Providers (AST2 tests). Am I right? Any opinions?

I wonder if they're at lest good to catch sensor failures (such as temperature, voltage and current sensors), I know AST2 tests are very good for this.
