Bookmark Folders - hovering doesn't work...?

I have a few bookmark folders on my bookmarks bar in Safari.

I sync bookmarks between Safari and Firefox as I sometimes need to use Firefox and it saves me time, having bookmarks in a familiar place.

In Firefox, if I hover over my bookmark folders they are automatically enumerated - i.e. all the lists of bookmarks in each folder are displayed as I hover over each bookmark folder.

This doesn't happen in Safari - in fact you can't even hover over a single folder - you have to CLICK on a bookmark folder to see what's in it.

Surely this can't be by design?! I use a lot of bookmarks and at this rate, I'll have to switch back to Firefox (after choosing Safari over a year ago) simply as it's so much easier to use Firefox.

I wonder if I have a fault with my Safari or if there is something I can change to get it to work like the Firefox hovering.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Have you tried what I'm describing though? I don't think you are quite understanding what I'm saying - I use bookmarks heavily, I have them in folders to keep them organized - and I use the folders, heavily.

I also have nothing to "reveal" - anything I wouldn't want anyone to see is not in a folder hanging off my bookmarks bar - I'd put them in a bookmarks menu folder so they weren't visible to anyone looking at my screen in the first place.

It's not a few clicks we're talking about, it's a lot. So yeah, I would definitely switch.

If this sort of functionality wasn't something people wanted, why would it be in Firefox?

I just want to bump this to see if anyone has a workaround. Clearly, Apple hasn't implemented this functionality. It was the first thing a found irritating and unintuitive.

And it's not one extra click, like Kluas said, it's actually two: You have to first click on the side to get out from the current folder.

Actually I lie - you have to click on the Firefox bookmark folder - just once, and THEN when you move to other folders, they automatically enumerate.

In Safari you also have to click the folder, but hovering to another bookmark folder does nothing - you have to click each one to see the bookmarks in the folder.

The energy required to make one click is enough to make you switch? 😀

I would find auto-opening (or revealing) just by hovering quite annoying.

You can send a feature request to Apple by using the Report Bug button on Safari.

You won't get a reply but they will read it.

Thanks Klaus, I'll do that. I actually wonder if this was a feature previously, I'm sure I remember having it but perhaps it was from the days I used Firefox as my primary browser.

I think what you may remember is that an info box came up when you hovered over a link.

Now that was annoying to many. I managed to stop that but no longer remember how!
