I received a message to enter Apple ID and password to activate my iPad . Then I received messsages that someone else is trying to use my if - confused DHG

Activation Lock I received a random Activation Lock message asking for apple ID and Password on my Ipad. Im very suspicious and unsure if this could be a scam with somebody trying to access my ipad remotely? Is that possible? Ive had the ipad about 8 years and never seen this before. Can anybody help to remove this message and access the ipad safely?
