I purchased songs on an old email address 10 years ago. Then just recently got a new computer, activated the new computer, but it won't let me play these songs from the old email address.

Purchases are permanently tied to the Apple ID they were bought from and cannot be transferred to a NEW Apple ID. However, if you CHANGE your Apple ID, they will transfer over.

But this only works if you haven't already changed it.
So the old songs that i did not realize were tied to an email that is at least 10 years old, and no longer exists, I assume I can't fix?

You may not be able to restore those purchases. After some time of inactivity, Apple may reserve the right to delete your account - I'm not sure. If you want to pursue this you will have to contact Apple Support:
