Can I set text font to italics when using Apple’s “Messages” app, on my ipad

Is it possible to set up the Messages app, so that italics can be used as a text font?

Font of Built-in Apps Maybe this should really be a feature request but I don't know where to put a feature request so here it is: Is there a way to change the font of iOS message or could Apple change the default font? In particular, the font of the built-in message app?
