iPhone to iPad syncing problems

I recently purchased an iPad for the family and set it up under my Apple ID (same Apple ID used for my phone) I hit the don’t sync data button but I noticed all my photos and contacts appear on the iPad as well as my phone. When I tried to delete one from the iPad it deleted from my phone as well... How do I turn off the “syncing” of photos and contacts to my iPad and how do I delete them all off it without deleting them off my phone?
