New iMac Hard Drive
I was told that the new iMac hard drive is slow and that if I buy a new iMac I should upgrade to the fusion drive. Has anyone found their hard drive to be too slow?
iMac 21.5", macOS 10.13

It's not that new iMac drive is slow; it's that a Fusion and especially an SSD drive are significantly faster, especially when starting up. Try the drives back to back at the store.
SSD drives are more reliable, as you probably know.
Yes, any rotational hard drive will be slow. Also, since the Fusion drive employs a rotational drive (more trouble prone) for data it's not the best way to go. I'd suggest getting it with an SSD.
The HDDs on 21.5" iMacs are 5400rpm drives. Relatively slow. A Fusion drive would help. an SSD would be best.
