Mac Pro 2013 graphics card replacement.

Hello,

I own a Mac Pro 2013 and need to replace the defective graphics card in it. Can anyone recommended (1) a reliable reseller where I can buy a replacement card and (2) where I can found instructions on how to replace it?

Thank you in advance.

a reliable seller who can replace it is Apple, Inc, or its Apple-Authorized Service Providers.

These cards are Apple proprietary, and were never made by any other sellers. so they are not generally available.

Any links we provide to vendors who provide do-it-yourself take-part are removed on the basis that they are not properly checked for safety and efficacy, and are therefore likely to harm you or your computer. That does not stop you from doing your own search, and reading the posted guides knowing that these guides can harm you or your computer. Buyer beware.

Grant,

Thank you for your reply and for your help. Do you have any idea as to how much this card replacement would cost if performed by Apple? It doesn't have to be a precise number but just a rough estimate. It is my understanding that the Mac Pro came with three different card labeled D300, D500 and D700. In case this is relevant my card is the following:

AMD FirePro D300 2 GB

Also, how long would it take Apple to perform this replacement?

Thank you in advance.

Good luck getting the GPU issue resolved. Unless Apple can guarantee you that replacing a single GPU will fix the issue, then I wouldn't spend the money on it. I personally would toss the Mac Pro out (yeah I really hate this model).

Apple at one time had a free repair program available for some of the GPUs. If it qualified for the repair program Apple would replace both GPUs, but if the computer did not qualify for a repair program Apple would replace only a single GPU, but in our case the issues persisted although the GPU panics occurred a bit less often (GPU Panics -- same issue as what the free repair program had covered).

I can tell you this is not an easy computer to work on since it is such an odd shape (prismatic shape once you remove the cover). Also it is very easy to strip out the threads on certain mounts.

IIRC the cost of a single GPU was around $300 US not including labor.

Good luck.

HWTech,

Thank you for your reply, help and please forgive me the delayed response to your post.

I understand your point and believe you are right. Given all that has taken place and how Apple has been completely negligent in regards to the issues involving the Mac Pro 2013 I think it is better to retire this computer entirely. This computer has been nothing but unreliable and has caused me to loose an enormous amount of important data, both personal and professional. The fact I paid $5,000 for this system, which should have been Apple's best and most powerful makes me feel as the victim of a scam.

It's a shame Apple has opted to turn its back to its customer base and refused to fix the problems affecting the Mac Pro 2013. Also interesting is the fact that Apple has deleted recent posts and threads that related to these problems with the Mac Pro. I had some exchanges here a few weeks ago on the problems affecting the Mac Pro and the posts have been deleted.

This is Apple post Steve Jobs. The Mac Pro was the first Apple product designed-manufactured without his involvement and it turned into a complete disaster. It should alert us all and make us aware that Apple is no longer the same company it was in the past.

If you have data on the original Apple SSD, then you can purchase an Envoy Pro Enclosure for the Apple SSD to connect it with USB to another Mac.

It was only a matter of time before it happened. Just remember the fancy looking stuff is made for looking "cool" or unique and it rarely is a good overall work horse. Case in point iMac G3s, iMac G4, G4 Cube, 2013 Mac Pro Trashcan (although I always thought it looked more like a cigarette ash tray).
