What is considered OS X?

I currently have OS Majave but I'm trying to download a software that requires OS X. Are they the same thing? Do I have to update in order to download the software?

P.s. I'm specifically NOT ready to update to Catalina yet due to Adobe software restrictions with the update.

You do say what exact Mac you have ????? The old name OS X , the new name macOS .

-------------------------------------------------------

You can download Catalina directly:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-catalina/id1466841314?mt=12&l=en-us

If you are looking for it in software update...Catalina not available for download

running Mojave 10.14.6.—trying to download Catalina, it is not showing up as a system update

From the Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app copy and paste:

sudo softwareupdate --reset-ignored

(please note your psswd will not echo on screen—type it in anyway to proceed)

relaunch System Preferences>Software update

----------------------------------------------------

If you are running macOS Mojave you can download directly the 10.14.6 Combo update:

Combo update 10.1.4.6 https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2010?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
