Chrome 'insufficient permission' file downloading

Hey gang. Running Catalina 10.15.1 on MB Pro 13". Chrome is my preferred browser, but in the past few weeks/couple of months I've not been able to download ANY files from the browser.

Opened up Safari - worked AOK, but Chrome is preferred here for work compatibility reasons.

Every attempted download has "Failed - Insufficient permission". Have Googled some remedies; the web seems light-on for Mac OS solutions.

I've reset Chrome. I've ensured my usual (and otherwise untouched) download folder has appropriate permissions (it did/does). Nothing has changed.

How the heck do I resolve this, please??!

Hey manowar77,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I hear that you're having trouble downloading files from Chrome because of insufficient permission. I'd be happy to help out.

I'd test the steps in both of these documents first:

Resolve issues caused by changing the permissions of items in your home folder - Apple Support

Change permissions for files, folders, or disks on Mac - Apple Support

Let us know if this helps.

Cheers!
