text size in Apple Messages on Mac, Catalina 10.15.2

Since I upgraded to Catalina, the text size in Messages is smaller. I can't increase it in Preferences--the text size font is gray out. While I can select DEFAULT, the change doesn't take effect.

Messages font size not working I would like to adjust the font size of my Messages on new Mac Mini, but the CMD + and CMD - keys are doing nothing at all. I've also tried going through the View menu to "Make text bigger" and again, there is effect. The key combinations work for other apps, so it is something unique to Messages. Apparently one cannot uninstall and reinstall Messages, which normally I would do to fix something like this. I'm not going to change screen size to change the font of one app, since it needs to work as designed, so please don't suggest that. I've logged in and out of Messages, but no change. This has been going on a while, not sure when it started, and I hoped 13.5 would fix it, but no go. Any ideas? Thanks.

Does MAIL in Monterey still only offer 3 font settings under MAIL>Preferences>Fonts&Colors? I use Catalina IOS on my MAC. I need to increase the font size in MAIL so my visually impaired mother can use the App. Catalina 10.15.7 only offers 3 font settings under MAIL>Preferences>Fonts&Colors? Before I upgrade to Monterey (or Big Sur) can someone please check for me if they have added more font settings that can be customized under MAIL>Preferences>Fonts&Colors other than these three: 1) Message list font 2) Message font 3) Fixed-width font I want to increase text size of the mailbox names: Inbox, Sent, Trash, etc. And in the New Message editor, I want to increase the text size for the TO and SUBJECT edit boxes. Thanks.

message font Hello. I would like to make slightly bigger the font that I use to send messages. But this also changes the font size of the messages I receive. Is there a way to change the fonts of the messages I Send but not the fonts of the messages I receive? I am using Mail > Preferences > Fonts & Colors > Message Font. The default is Helvetica 14. If I change it to Helvetica 15, that is nice for the messages I send, but sometimes it is too large for the messages I receive. I would like to leave intact the font of the messages I receive. Thanks. I am using macOS Catalina 10.15.7

Boot into Safe Mode (Use Safe Mode to isoloate issues with your Mac) and try setting the font size from there. Click on the menu even though it appears greyed out:

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.
