Fitbit app ignoring privacy settings.

I noticed the Fitbit app was showing the music I was playing and allowed me to manage the music. When I set up the app, I turned that feature off. I tried to turn that off again and found I could not disable that feature. Weird, right?

After reading today that Google purchased Fitbit, I decided to do some checking. I found that the Fitbit app now ignores the privacy settings on my phone. The app tracks my location regardless of the setting - Never, Ask Next Time (the app does not ask when this is set), or While Using the App. What this looks like is a brazen privacy violation and suggests that Fitbit has already sold out its users to Google. My greater concern is why IOS is allowing an app to misbehave. There are plenty of anecdotal stories about apps harvesting user data, but shouldn’t IOS absolutely, positively prevent this from happening?

Howdy tahiti4me,

It’s great to have you in the Apple Support Communities! I gather that you’re having issues getting the Fitbit app to recognize your privacy settings. I’m happy to guide you.

To troubleshoot this, I recommend following each step in this article: If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open

Although the title of the article mentions other issues, each step could help you resolve the issue you’re experiencing.

If you notice that the issue persists after trying each of the steps, you can reach out to the developer of the Fitbit app here: Get Support

Take care.
